The Mother & Child Foundation was established in 1994 to advance the health interests of mothers and infants, through medical research, education and community action. Too little attention has been paid to maternal health and nutrition, even though the issue is central to the welfare of entire communities.
Our primary goal is the improvement of maternal health through nutrition, which in turn helps prevent disability and chronic ill-health in children.
The Foundation has supported research primarily through the Institute of Brain Chemistry and Human Nutrition directed by Professor Michael Crawford, and under the Chairmanship of Professor Cedric Hassell FRS. Professor Crawford is currently a visiting professor at the Chelsea and Westminster Campus of Imperial College, London. The Foundation has also supported work in the Sudan, Nepal, Bangladesh and China.
